Your Battle Creek Orthodontist Discusses Braces with Previous Dental Work

Many people, especially those who are adults, have had dental work like implants, veneers, or crowns. If you have had dental work done, it does not at all mean that you won’t be able to get orthodontic treatment and wear braces. In this post, the premier Battle Creek orthodontist, Bandeen Orthodontics, discusses different categories of dental work and how it may affect your orthodontic treatment.

Fillings / Crowns. If you have had tooth decay or damage to your teeth that has been corrected by a filling or crown, you can still get braces. Your Battle Creek orthodontist will adapt your treatment plan if necessary, to protect your crowns.

Dental Implants. Ife we could choose, orthodontic treatment would begin before getting a dental implant, however, that’s not always a possibility. The best scenario for getting braces with a dental implant is that the implant is already in the right position, allowing for your other teeth to be aligned around the implant(s). If your implant is not in the correct position, you may want to consider having it replaced, or even just the crown replaced, after your orthodontic treatment is complete.

Veneers. If you’re able, it’s a good idea to have your orthodontic treatment before getting veneers. The reason for this is that your brace’s brackets may damage the veneer’s surface. If you have already had veneers, you may need to have additional work done after your braces are removed if the veneers are damaged.
